About
A CPA who has sat on both sides of the table.
David C. Tucker, CPA
Thirty-five years of tax, one client at a time.
David was licensed as a Texas CPA in 1991. He began at Ernst & Young and Arthur Andersen, then moved into senior financial management roles at United Technologies Corporation and several start-ups, where he was responsible for the numbers that boards, investors and lenders relied on.
In 2000 he opened his own practice in Austin. The focus is deliberately narrow: individual and business tax returns, business entity structuring, and bookkeeping and payroll for small businesses. He works directly with every client, in person in Austin or remotely anywhere.

Background
Where the experience comes from.
A career that moved from auditing large companies to running their finance, and then to serving the people who own small ones.

Ernst & Young and Arthur Andersen
Public accounting at two of the largest firms in the world: audit, tax and the discipline of documenting every position.
United Technologies and start-ups
Senior financial management inside a Fortune 100 company and several start-ups. Budgets, financing, boards and investors.
2000
Austin, Texas. Individuals, small businesses, trusts and estates.

Austin, in person and remote
A north Austin home office, a coffee bar for Austin clients, and Dropbox, phone and Zoom for everyone else, including clients abroad.

How David works
Semi-aggressive on the law. Conservative on surprises.
David's approach to tax law is to claim what it allows, document it so it holds up, and avoid positions that invite an audit without a real payoff. Clients get the lowest defensible tax, not the lowest number on paper.
Every engagement is quoted as a fixed fee before any work starts, and for most ongoing questions during the year there is no additional charge. That is on purpose: the short calls in July are where the planning happens.
Tools are simple and professional: Drake Tax for returns, QuickBooks Online and Desktop for books and payroll, Dropbox for documents, Zoom for meetings. English is the primary language of the practice; Spanish-speaking clients are welcome, with David's spouse assisting so nothing is lost.
