FAQ

Questions people ask before they call.

Short, direct answers. If yours is not here, the contact form or a phone call is the fastest way to get it.

01

Working with David

Yes. The first conversation costs nothing, whether it is in person in Austin, by phone or on Zoom. David listens to your situation, tells you what he would do and quotes a fixed fee if you decide to move forward.

Before any work starts, David quotes one price for the project: a tax return, an entity setup, a bookkeeping clean-up or a monthly bookkeeping and payroll arrangement. You know the cost up front, and most ongoing questions during the year are answered without an additional charge.

No. David works with clients across the United States and abroad by phone, Zoom, email and Dropbox. Austin-area clients can meet in person at his home office in north Austin or at a nearby coffee bar.

David works from a home office and keeps in-person meetings to a few per week, by appointment. Many Austin clients prefer a coffee bar, and that works well for an initial conversation or a review of the return.

English is the primary language of the practice. Spanish-speaking clients are welcome; David's spouse assists with Spanish directly and indirectly so nothing is lost.

Yes. Clients call and email with questions about withholding, estimated payments, a purchase or sale, a new 1099 or a decision with tax consequences. For most ongoing questions there is no charge.

02

Tax preparation

Individual returns (Form 1040), S corporation returns (Form 1120-S), C corporation returns (Form 1120), partnership and multi-member LLC returns (Form 1065) and trust and estate returns (Form 1041), plus the Texas franchise tax report and other state returns as needed.

David claims what the law allows and documents it so it holds up, while steering clients away from positions that invite audit exposure without a real benefit. The goal is the lowest defensible tax, not the lowest number on paper.

Through Dropbox. David sets up a shared folder for each client, and tax documents, worksheets and finished returns move through it. Email works for quick items, and in-person drop-off is available by appointment in Austin.

The fillable worksheets on this site: the Personal Tax Organizer and Demographics sheet for individuals, the S corporation, C corporation, partnership or LLC organizer for businesses, and the Schedule E worksheet if you own rental property. They are the same documents David uses to prepare the return.

Drake Tax, a professional desktop package, for return preparation and electronic filing. Returns are e-filed with the IRS and the states.

Yes. Unfiled prior years, amended returns and IRS notices are a regular part of the work.

Business services

It depends on expected profit, the number of owners, whether you will pay yourself a salary and where the business is headed. An S election can reduce self-employment tax once profit justifies payroll; below that, a simple LLC is often better. David runs the numbers in a free consultation.

Yes, in QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Desktop: monthly transaction coding, reconciliations, financial statements, payroll runs, tax deposits, quarterly payroll returns and year-end W-2s and 1099s, on a fixed monthly fee.

Online by card or bank transfer through the secure payment page (CPACharge), or by check. The payment link is in the site footer.
